What you enter
Times, names, pay rates and every other entry are calculated in your browser. They are not sent to our server, apart from the anonymous usage statistics described below. So that you do not lose a half-filled time card, the page saves your entries in your browser's local storage on this device; Clear on the calculator removes them, and so does clearing your browser data.
PDF, CSV and Excel files are created on your device. Copy link puts your entries into the part of the link after “#”, which browsers do not send to the server; anyone you send that link to will see the same entries.
Cookies, accounts and tracking
HourWage does not use cookies, does not ask you to sign up and does not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers. If we add ads later, this page will say so before they go live, with a way to opt out where the law requires it.
Anonymous usage statistics
To see which calculators help and where they confuse people, our own server counts anonymous events: the page you open and where you came from (for example, a search engine), your device type and browser, how long the page stays open and how far you scroll, which buttons you use, which options you pick in lists (such as a state or pay period), pay amounts rounded (salaries to the nearest $5,000, bonuses to $1,000, hourly rates to $1), fields where the calculator could not read what you typed, page speed and JavaScript errors. We also note your browser's time zone and language, which tell us the country and U.S. time zone roughly (we do not look up your IP address), your screen width, and the campaign name if you followed a tagged link.
To count returning visitors without cookies, your browser remembers the date of your first and last visit in its own storage on your device. Only "new" or "returning" and the number of days since the last visit are sent, never the dates themselves or any ID. Clearing your browser data removes it.
We never record names, times you enter, exact amounts or notes. We do not store your IP address: to tell visits apart without cookies, we keep a short code made from your IP address and browser with a random key that changes every day and is then deleted, so visits cannot be linked from one day to the next on our side or traced back to you. The statistics are kept for 13 months.
Server logs
Like any website, our web server keeps short technical logs of requests: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use them only to keep the site secure and working, do not sell or share them, and delete them on a rolling basis.
If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply and to fix what you reported.
Children
HourWage is meant for working adults and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
